1954 Mr. Potato Head Ad from Life Magazine
There’s a little of everything hiding in those Google archives, including this fantastic 1954 ad from Hasbro for their Mr. Potato Head toys. This is from before Hasbro used a plastic potato, back in the days when kids were encouraged to play with their food and jab the accessories into a real potato.
If you’re not familiar with the history of Mr. Potato Head then you’ll want to grab yourself a copy of Timeless Toys* and start reading. Fortunately, the book’s also packed with information on dozens of other toys and games. It’s one of my favorite books to grab when I’m tired and want to relax a little but still read.
