1981 Universe RPG Ad from Ares Magazine
Earlier this month I posted a cover from an old issue of Ares magazine that featured an article for SPI’s Universe roleplaying game (Amazon.com search*). As I mentioned at the time, I don’t own that old game . . . but that artwork? Incredible!
Well, it’s time for more Universe artwork because I ran across an ad for the game in a 1981 issue of Ares magazine. Absolutely love that classic sci-fi artwork, and with a little work I soon uncovered a large image of the boxed set posted at rpggeek.com. We need someone creating retro-styled artwork like this today!

I have the boxed set and it’s a joy to skim. Reading the rules to figure out how to play is another story entirely, but it’s beautifully made. I’m in 100% agreement that someone should be making a game with that cool retro style. I’m working on one at the moment, but it’s a one-man show so it’s not likely to be a quick process!
