1985 Star Wars Droids Toy Commercial

I’ve posted this commercial before (back in 2013), but the great thing about running battlegrip.com is that I can do whatever I want . . . I can even post the 1985 Star Wars: Droids commercial by Kenner all over again!

I have a few of the old Droids toys — the ATL Interceptor and Side Gunner — but what I need to chase down are some of the action figures. Especially the R2-D2 and C-3PO figures from the line; I appreciate the color choices a lot more today than I did when I saw the toys on sale over three decades ago.

For more Droids you’ll want to check out The Ultimate Guide to Vintage Star Wars Toys* by Mark Bellomo. The book is a blast, and it’s so fun I fully expect it to be a little pricey in ten years or so once it’s out of print and gone.

  1. I think one of the things I enjoyed most about the Kenner commercials (oh heck, ALL action figure commercials) were the small sets they built to stage the action in. Some were just backyards with landscaping features, but ones like this one went all out with expanded sets, buildings, and space stations.

Production design on a Kenner action figure commercial must have been a fun job!

    1. @Jay – I wish we had a better quality version of this commercial. I tried pausing for a better look at some of the “buildings” (especially at the 10-second mark), but the quality is so fuzzy it’s hard to tell how the buildings were constructed.
