1987 Watchimals Newspaper Ad

Hasbro’s Watchimals toys (see Wikipedia) were working watches that had one weird gimmick: these were stuffed animal wristwatches that were designed for . . . well, I have no idea who Hasbro intended these toys for. People who wanna run around with totally weird watches and forever have a stuffed animal perched on their wrist?

This 1987 newspaper ad shows the Watchimals at a discount warehouse, the toys listed at $5/each. I don’t think I would have worn one of these in 1987, and I am sure as hell not likely to wear one today! Still, the Watchimals are an unusual part of toy history and ads like this are fun just because they give us such a great look at the past.
