Review – World War Robot Medic Bertie

Manufacturer: ThreeA Toys * Year: 2010

The second of the seven World War Robot* Berties (master review), the Medic Bertie comes equipped with a pistol which makes it pretty clear this guy does more than just repair/heal his comrades. Which isn’t too surprising when you think about it . . . who wants a giant robot doctor that doesn’t come ready for battle?

Another Great Paint Job

If anyone was to tell me that the World War Robot toys have substandard paint apps I’d have to call them insane. I can accept that not everyone loves weathered paint apps, but I find it difficult to see how these toys have anything but some of the best paint jobs that we’ve ever seen on toys. From what I can determine it’s a mixture of paint and decals, but whatever is done in the factory to make these look so awesome I hope that technique is never changed. And I hope the larger toy manufacturers take a look at these and learn a few tricks.

The Other Backpack

The Deep Powder Bertie we looked at a few days ago has the fantastic cannon with an ammo feed leading from the backpack and that’s one of the backpack designs used with this series. The Medic has the simpler backpack design that actually fits the toy better; the ammo pack rides pretty low and kinda interferes with the Bertie’s saddle/waist bags. It’s a minor annoyance on the toys with the ammopack, but I’m happy to see that the pistol-armed Berties don’t have the same problem.

Closing Thoughts

Created on an awesome platform, the Medic Bertie looks cool with his pistol (see the photo above) and the weathering is as good as we’ve seen on any World War Robot toy. If you’re going to grab one of the toys in this series then the best advice I can give you is to look at all of the photos online (I have five more Berties to post) and choose the one with the paint apps you love most. The basic toys are the same, and the accessories vary slightly between some units, so you can’t go wrong with any Bertie toy.

Philip Reed feels like he’s slacking and letting everyone down this week. A lot of projects at the office are draining energy and battlegrip.com is suffering this week. Philip is sorry for that but hopes everyone understands.
