Review – Marvel Red Skull (Slayer)
A few weeks ago we looked at an Iron Man toy car (review here). It wasn’t the greatest toy car I’ve ever seen, and I had planned to skip more in the series, but I snagged this Red Skull car as soon as I saw it. The design — mural on the car’s side — immediately reminded me of the old superhero van toys of the seventies and I couldn’t resist the $2 price tag.
It’s Basically the Same Car
A great design and paint job, but the Red Skull car here has basically the same problem as the Iron Man toy car (review here) we already looked at: it’s not the fastest moving car on the track.
Cosmic Cube!
Not sure why they decided the Red Skull needed to be holding the Cosmic Cube in the artwork, but it looks good. My only complaint is that the cube causes a ton of white on the design and that kinda detracts from the rest of the art and design.
This Isn’t the Car You’re Looking For, Move Along
Even at $2 this car is a tad overpriced. Hardcore Marvel fans may want it for their collections, but it’s just an okay toy. Between this and the Iron Man toy car I think I’ve knocked out any urges I had to buy superhero-themed cars, which is unfortunate since I really wanted to love this.
It’s not terrible, but it’s not good enough that I’m going to recommend it. If these drop to $1/each then I’ll definitely grab more, but at the $2 price these can hang on the pegs at the store.
Philip Reed is ready to switch off his brain and stare into space. Maybe there are some great designs hiding in the braindead space he can see.
This guy can’t ever be made into a figure unless he’s an exclusive and yet he gets plastic treatment as a car and as a Superhero Squad guy?

@Newt – I can’t see how Hasbro keeps skipping Red Skull for the Marvel Universe line. (At least as a mass-produced figure.) It’s gotta just be a matter of time before he hits Target and Wal-Mart; he’s too important a character to skip.
You guys forget, he’s a Nazi! The big companies tend to shy away from that kind of stuff.
In an even weirder note, we both posted Red Skull reviews within a few hours of each other.
And am I the only one who thinks that isn’t something Red Skull would ever drive?

I have to agree with Philip. Jestergoblin, you have carved out your own little niche in the toy review world and done a great job with it.
