Spotted Online – Paul Shih’s Resin Toy Tutorial

Resin toy artist Paul Shih (website, Twitter) has put together a set of short tutorials showing the sculpting, mold making, and casting of his new JB resin toy. Broken into two parts — Part One, Part Two — this is exactly the sort of thing you need to read if you’ve ever wanted to attempt creating your own resin toy.

What I love about this type of post is the chance to see how an artist works. Sculpey (available at Amazon*) is popular, but I find that I use the material less and less because it’s so soft and prone to collapsing on me. I absolutely love the stencil and detail work Paul shows in his posts, and it gives me some ideas for future projects.

Definitely a valuable read if you’ve ever thought about making your own resin toys . . . or, for that matter, even clay toys. (Just don’t take the final step to make a mold.)
