Review – Star Wars Zuckuss Bust

Line: Star Wars * Manufacturer: Gentle Giant * Year: 2007

Now here’s a fantastic Star Wars statue from the crew at Gentle Giant (website, Twitter). This 6-inch tall Star Wars Zuckuss Bust* takes a great bounty hunter and brings us to us in a gorgeous collectible that’s looking great on my shelf beside the 12-inch Zuckuss action figure (review here) and a vintage 4-LOM action figure (review here). If you’re in a rush just admire the photos, but if you wanna waste some time then feel free to keep reading my short review.

A Great Sculpt

Just look at the close shot of Zuckuss, below, and you can see why Gentle Giant is considered a master in the art of statues. Every wrinkle of the alien’s head is there, those bug eyes are staring dead at us, and Zuckuss’ breathing device (see Wookiepedia) looks as detailed and perfect as it ever has. And it’s not just the head. Check out the photos, below, of his armor and unique gun and you can see that Gentle Giant sunk a ton of love into every inch of the statue’s design. I’ve got no complaints at all with the statue’s design.

Tight, Excellent Paint

And it’s not just the sculpt that stands out as excellent. Every detail of Zuckuss’ body is expertly painted, with the leather-like texture on the armor’s straps looking every bit as perfect as the statue’s head and weapon. This is far superior to the 12-inch scale action figure . . . which we should expect from a statue. Again, as with the statue’s sculpt I have no complaints at all when it comes to Zuckuss’ paint job.

There’s Just One Problem

And it’s not really a problem, but having three Zuckuss pieces on display in the living room makes me think I should snag this Zuckuss ArtFX Statue* before the price climbs, because I’m betting it would go great beside the other Zuckuss action figures and the statue already in the house. And as I said, it’s not really a problem with the statue.

Closing Thoughts

This Star Wars Zuckuss Bust* is one of Gentle Giant’s better pieces in my collection and really stands out on the shelf. It’s tightly sculpted, expertly painted, and just large enough that it isn’t lost on the shelf. I know Zuckuss is a minor character, but that bug-eyed alien head, unusual blaster, and great cloak and armor make him one of the cooler Star Wars bounty hunters and I’m glad I found this piece for as low of a price as I did.

The photo below shows the statue with the 12-inch Zuckuss action figure (review here) and a vintage 4-LOM action figure (review here) which clearly shows how great these look together and why I should find more Zuckuss toys and statues for the collection. (Actually, I have one action figure to open and should do that soon.)

Seriously, this is a great bust. And right now the price is pretty low so if you like what you see grab one now because it’s likely to just get more expensive in the future.

Philip Reed keeps thinking he needs an entire collection of Empire Strikes Back bounty hunters, but that would be insane.
