Blind-Packed Hot Wheels at Wal-Mart

Awesome job, Mattel! This morning at Wal-Mart I spotted this display of blind-bagged Hot Wheels toy cars and just had to snap photos. These are priced exactly the same as the standard carded toys so fans of blind-packaged toys can snag these for just over $1/each. I don’t know the Hot Wheels series well enough to know whether or not the cars are identical to those already-released or are all repaints, but I’m betting someone out there has done the work and knows everything about this line.

Yep, the Hot Wheels Wiki has some info, saying:

Mystery Models were released in early November 2011 across Wal-Mart stores in the United States. These vehicles came in foil packs, similar to trading cards, as oppose to Mystery Cars which came on blister cards with blackened out bubbles. Most of the 24 vehicles are re-colors of previous released 2011 Hot Wheels. Below is the list of vehicles in this line.

So these are really new. I guess I’m lucky I spotted them so soon after release; I wonder how well these will do with parents this Christmas as stocking stuffers . . .

  1. These really should be right next to the registers for both loss prevention and to increase impulse buys. But I love blind bags over the holidays – the kids know what they’re getting, and yet…they don’t. 🙂
