Review – Corbot V War Axe

In the Transformers: War for Cybertron game* Optimus Prime uses a giant axe. Hasbro’s Cybertronian Optimus Prime*, though, only comes with a blaster and is left axeless. The poor guy.

But there’s a fix to that problem thanks to Corbot V and their War Axe accessory. And it’s a damned cool accessory.

Simple Packaging

Using a very basic clamshell and insert the designers gave us an adequate but not exciting package for the Corbot V War Axe. I was a little concerned about the quality of the axe inside when I first held the package in my hands — it’s not terrible, just a little uninspired — but those concerns vanished the instant I had the pieces out of the package and started playing with them.

Made of Three Parts

Above you can see the three plastic parts of the Corbot V War Axe. The plastic feels durable and the semi-translucent blade of the axe looks great once you get a close look at it. And assembling the axe is a snap as each piece pops right into place without any need for excessive force or any worries that something will break. I wouldn’t start bashing toys with the axe, but it’s tough enough that it’s a playable piece.

A Fantastic Accessory

As you can see, my Cybertronian Optimus Prime* looks incredible with his new axe. I love that the handle is in pieces because it means Prime can either hold the axe with one hands or with two hands. Prime’s poseability limits the positions you can put him in when holding the axe with two hands . . . but I don’t care since he looks awesome with the axe. I just wish I could find a good place to store his rifle when he’s holding the axe.

Closing Thoughts

This is a very simple accessory, yes, but Corbot V has created an accessory that I highly recommend to anyone who already owns the Cybertronian Optimus Prime* and wants to outfit him with a melee weapon. The axe cost me right around $20 which is high for one weapon — even one that’s almost 8-inches long — but these unofficial Transformers upgrades and accessories aren’t known for being cheap.

Seriously great work. Prime looks cool with his axe and I find that he’s a lot more fun to play with holding the axe than he is when he’s holding his rifle. Now I just need a great melee weapon for the Cybertronian Megatron* toy.

Philip Reed watched the Fall of Cybertron trailer yesterday and is now hoping that Hasbro creates new toys for when the game launches.

  1. War for Cybertron Prime has a slot (I believe, might be a hole, I can’t find mine at the moment to be certain) on the section on his back that was the truck hood his gun clips into. not very securely, but it’s there. This axe is cool, but I feel like it’s a little too big, though I can’t remember now how big it actually was in comparison to Prime in the game as I got bored of it and sold it ages ago.

  2. I always like add-on accessories for the TF toys, it’s such an easy way to have more fun with the figure. A friend of mine really liked this game & has this figure so I’ll have to tell him about this.

  3. @Bah’glenn – If you know someone with that Prime then you definitely want to point them at this Axe. It’s a lot nicer than I expected. And expect more unofficial Transformers toys info very soon; I’m working away.

  4. I thought it looked really cool and the story was good and the voice acting and even most of the game play, but I hated transforming sometimes and I found both the fights against Omega Supreme and Trypticon to be unnecessarily long. I didn’t finish the game because of the Trypticon fight actually, I got through like three quick save points of blasting panels off him from space down into a crater and finally, finally, I think I kill him and it’s ANOTHER segment of shooting tiny targets on him. I didn’t touch the game for months and when I did a sweep of what I felt I could trade in to Gamestop without hating myself later for, it found it’s way there. But I’m cranky TF fan who is never happy with any of the media really so don’t mind me.

  5. @Phil Reed: I apparently told him about this axe last year, as I still have the message I sent him on Facebook dated October 2010 LoL. I’m going to send it to him again along with the new War for Cybertron trailer.
