Review – Power Attack Batman, Total Destruction Batmobile

Part of the new Power Attack Batman series (Amazon.com search*, at Entertainment Earth*), this Total Destruction Batmobile* is pure awesome and a hell of a lot of fun. Don’t believe me? Just find the toy in the store and the open packaging allows you to play with the store before you even buy it.

If you’re like me, though, then you’ll play with it once or twice in the store before you breakdown and bring it home. And I am so very happy that I brought it home.

It’s Huge!

At 14-inches long, the Total Destruction Batmobile* is a big, durable toy car that’s a great deal for the $25 to $30 that I’m seeing it sold for in stores. I love the size, and even if there was nothing else cool about the car I’d have to say that the price feels like a great deal. Fortunately, though, there are several other things that make this a fun Batmobile toy.

Sleek Sculpt

From the bat-headed ram to the swept back tailfins this Batmobile is, as you can see in the pics, a sleek machine. And with room for just one figure in the cockpit it’s more hood than anything else, but that’s fine with me since the Batmobile should be a powerful beast of a machine. I love the sculpt — I wouldn’t be surprised if this was CAD created — and I’m going to say that if you like the look of the photos here then you need to run out and buy this toy right now.

Sharp and Fantastic Paint

The entire body is covered in a pearl blue that gives the toy a shimmery, great look. I think that’s probably the plastic and not paint, but whatever they used to make this happen I’m a fan of the approach. And there are silver and red details painted on that are crisp and well-applied, some of the best paint work we could have asked for in a vehicle.

Battering Ram

The photo below shows how the ram works. Press down on the hood and the ram shoots out; there’s a rubberband beneath the vehicle that pulls the ram back when you let go of the hood. What I love about how simple the action is is that if the rubberband snaps then I can easily replace the band and fix the toy. Rubberbands may be low-tech, but when I can fix a toy myself then I’m happy.

Cockpit

Below you can see the cockpit open and closed, which should give you an idea of how Batman looks in the car. I love that Batman can grab the steering wheel and drive the car. I am so much of a nerd that I can’t stop playing with the car whenever I take it off of the shelf. That’s a sign of a great toy.

Closing Thoughts

I really don’t think that I can say any more about the Total Destruction Batmobile* except that it’s a fun design and an incredible toy. Mattel has done a fabulous job with the entire Power Attack Batman series (Amazon.com search*, at Entertainment Earth*) and I am quickly finding that I am collecting the entire line. Yes, even the “Deluxe” figures.

The fact that this Batmobile goes so well with the Battle Gauntlet Batman (review here) tells me that even those who aren’t fans of the brighter toys in the line should grab at least the Batmobile and a Batman. Trust me, if you’re a Batman fan then you’re going to be angry with yourself if you miss these toys. They’re durable, fun, and look great. And that’s all we should ever want from our toys.
