Review – Star Wars Pop! Vinyl Boba Fett

NOTE: This toy was provided by the manufacturer. I own — and have reviewed — several Funko Pop! Vinyl toys, but this is the first I have reviewed that I did not purchase.

Boba Fett, as you can see by the photos, makes a fun addition to Funko’s Pop! Vinyl toy series (Amazon.com search*) and it’s funny that my first toy in the Star Wars line is not a Stormtrooper. But now that I’ve opened this cute bobbleheaded Boba Fett it’s down to days before I’ve ordered a Stormtrooper . . . remember, I’m not a bobblehead collector. Or so I say.

Sculpt

As with every single toy in the series that I own, the Pop! Boba Fett* sports a fantastic sculpt that makes him clearly Boba Fett and clearly so damned adorable that he just cannot be resisted. The over-sized head has all of the necessary details sculpted and not simply painted on while the body is unique to Fett and not just a stock body with a few paint apps. And it continues to be that dedication to each character — instead of just using one sculpt and painting it differently the Funko team has a unique sculpt for each character — that makes this series stand out from so many other designer toy lines. It helps that the sculpts are phenomenal.

No Articulation

Where other Pop! Vinyl toys have had moving heads this toy is a bobblehead so there’s no real articulation at all. The arms and legs are static and the head just bobs around on a spring. I guess we could argue that the bobbling head is a point of articulation . . . but let’s not. This is a display piece and not an action figure.

Paint

Now we get into the (usually) weak spot in the Pop! Vinyl line. If you’ve read any of my earlier Pop! Vinyl toy reviews then you know that the paint is the one area I often have complaints with, and while Boba Fett has a few rough paint apps it is not as bad as we’ve seen on some of the other Pop! Vinyl toys. I don’t now if this is a newer toy than some others I have reviewed, if it was produced in a different factory, or if Funko sinks a little more expense into producing their Star Wars toys, but whatever happened to make this guy’s paint sharper needs to keep happening. It’s not perfect but, as you can see in the photos, the paint is pretty decent.

Closing Thoughts

The Pop! Vinyl toy series (Amazon.com search*) is a lot of fun, and this Boba Fett bobblehead is another great addition to what is turning into a much larger line than I first expected. I love that Funko gave me this Fett, but I hate that the toy looks so neat that it just has me getting deeper into the series.

The addition of a removable base was a nice touch and gives Boba Fett a more stable way to stand than just on his tiny feet and now that I have this one base I kinda wish the other Pop! Vinyl toys came with bases. But even if he hadn’t come with a base I’d be enjoying the design of this Boba Fett enough to go after more Star Wars Pop! Vinyl toys, so I’m saying that Funko did an awesome job and has added another piece to a surprisingly cool line.
