Review – Matchbox Sky Busters A-10

Each time I’m in the store I find myself staring at the Matchbox Sky Busters series (Amazon.com search*) and thinking about just how awesome the little planes look. I’ve already reviewed the coolest design in the line — Matchbox Sky Busters Stealth Launch review here — but after seeing this A-10 a few times I just had to grab one. The A-10 is one of the coolest of aircraft and I could only resist for so long.

Exactly What it Looks Like

I think one of the things I love most about the Sky Busters series is that when you look at the toy in the package you can be pretty sure that what you see is what you get. Plastic with a little metal, the planes in the Sky Busters line show everything right there in the package; basically, if you like the look of the plane then you should grab it. Every single one of these I’ve ever held has been a tough, fun little toy plane.

Scale?

If I’ve got one complaint with the series (besides the fact that the landing gear doesn’t retract) it would have to be that the planes do not appear to be to scale with each other. With a wingspan of about 4-inches the A-10 feels great on its own, but if you set it near a helicopter or a bomber in the Matchbox Sky Busters series (Amazon.com search*) then things start to look a little odd. But I guess that since these are toy planes and not plane replicas I should just shut up and be happy with how cool the planes look.

Quality?

These are absolutely high-quality planes and worth the $3 to $4 price tag. And if you can get lucky like I did and find these for less than $2.50/each then they become a steal. I’m already thinking about heading back to the grocery store and buying a couple more planes.

Closing Thoughts

I’ve got nothing but good things to say about every single plane in the Matchbox Sky Busters series (Amazon.com search*) that I’ve ever touched. Mattel’s doing a fantastic job with this line and I happily recommend these to anyone who is a fan of toy planes.

Philip Reed thinks he may buy another plane or two tomorrow before the grocery store figures out what a steal these are and the store pumps the price up to what others sell the planes for.
