Review – Custom Glyos Stonemm

Chris over at Bah’glenn Creations (blog) gave me another one of his awesome Glyos System custom toys last month at NYCC. Joining the Halloween Canne’boids (review here), this new Stonemm is a mix of resin parts and official Glyos production parts . . . and a hell of a lot of passion and love for toy creation.

Fantastic Lightpipe

If you notice those bright green eyes in every photo of the toy in this review it’s because the toy has some of the best lightpipe work I’ve ever seen. The photo below, left, shows the back of the head and that huge mass of green is connected to the eyes and exactly why these light so well. Companies like Hasbro and Mattel could learn a few things about lightpipes from this custom toy.

A Rocky Sculpt

The Stonemm features six new parts cast in resin, all of which are cute and give the toy that rock monster appearance that makes me think that if only he transformed he could be a Rock Lord. Chris has his own unique style when it comes to custom Glyos System toys and that carries over to this adorable design. The toy has fewer points of articulation than we see in a lot of Glyos toys, but that’s totally acceptable because in exchange for extra articulation we got a blocky, rocky, and chunky design that’s fun.

Briefs!

Part of the Bah’glenn Creations customs is the addition of cloth components, and in the Stonemm we get a pair of cloth boxers that adds to the cute factor of the design. And the nice touch is that the cloth in no way hinders the articulation; the legs swing nicely back and forth and the waist swivel works just fine. It’s a small touch, but it’s just one more bit of fun on an already cool custom toy.

Closing Thoughts

Bah’glenn Creations (blog) doesn’t produce a flood of Glyos System customs, but you know that when Chris releases another design it’s going to have its own flavor and be completely unlike anything else fans of the line are making. And that’s a lot of what makes a piece like the Stonemm so very fun; this little guy has a toy-like and cute quality that we rarely see in custom action figures and the entire piece feels like a labor of love.

I hope Chris keeps making new designs; I love seeing how his play with Glyos System toys keeps leading to such weird and wonderful custom toys.
