Pop Culture Shock Collectibles Creating Masters of the Universe Statues

Pop Culture Shock Collectibles (official website, at Sideshow Collectibles*) has announced they will be creating official Masters of the Universe quarter-scale statues in 2013. You can find the press release at the Pop Culture Shock site and follow fan response at Poe Ghostal’s site and this thread at he-man.org.

What I’m interested in seeing is how Pop Culture Shock Collectibles takes the lessons learned from their Thundercats statue series — see thundercats.ws for info — and applies it to their Masters of the Universe license. Will they stagger the heavy hitters — say, save Skeletor for their fifth or sixth release — or will Pop Culture Shock Collectibles front-load the heavies and then see the line end quickly once fans have the characters they really want?

I guess we’ll know soon enough.

  1. I am not one to question market forces, but I wonder if this is a smart business decision on PCSC’s part.

It has not been that long since there were MOTU statues — which came at a time when MOTU product available for purchase either cost less per unit or was entirely non-existent. Now, MOTU product currently available costs more than twice what prior MOTU toys cost and there’s a tremendous amount to absorb — many of it now readily available thanks to Mattel’s new practice of rotating in older figures back into sale.

I don’t believe this endeavor has legs but my opinion is purely that. I have absolutely zero sales data to inform anything.

Best of luck to PCSC in making this work; give me a call if you manage some kind of statue/diorama that evokes Earl Norem art.

  2. @Z Foundation – I kinda question the decision, but they must have put some research into this before grabbing the license. I guess we’ll know in about a year whether or not this was a good move for the company.
