Spotted Online – Moving Toys

Visit It’s All True!

When the io9 post on toy collecting (mentioned here) it led to some discussion about toys and collecting and whether or not toy collecting makes us happy. There were some fun comments online — see Poe Ghostal’s “Does toy collecting make you unhappy?” — and it seems like the ripples from that io9 post are still working their way through the web.

Noisy over at itsalltrue.net has recently bought a house and is in the process of the most dreaded of events for toy collectors . . . moving all of his toys. And the discussion at itsalltrue.net is one you will want to read if you’re a dedicated toy collector and if you want a look at some photos that aren’t uncommon if you’ve got more toys than display space.

  1. Moving was fun and a nightmare at the same time which I did a year ago. I got to look at toys I have not seen in a while but at the same time, i did find I have a lot of stuff that i need to sort thru and put on eBay.

I have a massive toy room now which I love. The worst part for me was that I did not open anything for almost 5 months as I did not want to have repack again and I am still almost a year later still doing catch up on package opening. We are getting close now at least 🙂

  2. The only thing worse than moving toys is moving DVDs. When I moved from my apartment to my house 4 years ago I had nearly 250 individual movies. The ungainly, heavy boxes were enough to motivate me to start culling the collection.

    1. That is a pain… there comes a point where you’re almost just tempted to ditch all the cases and put everything in a cd/dvd booklet.

  3. I got a whole bookcase of DVD also. Books were the worst to move i think. Even the paperbacks were heavy

  4. Thanks for sharing this link. I anticipate moving later this year, and am dreading the work it will be to move hundreds and hundreds of Transformers, Kamen Rider, Star Wars, DCUC, GI Joe and whatever else I’ve accumulated in the past 7 years at this house.

But then, I am also looking forward to being able to reorganize, catalog and sort through my collection. But dang is it going to take a lot of time.
