Review – Iron Man Micro Muggs

Hasbro’s Mighty Muggs toy series (Amazon.com search*) has hit shelves in a new form with these cute little Iron Man Micro Muggs* that are now in stores. I found a case of these at Target and figured that at $3 a figure I’d grab two to give them a shot.

What’s inside? Let’s take a look!

1.75-Inch Collectibles

The new Iron Man Micro Muggs* have zero points of articulation and are permanently mounted to their bases, so if you’re after a new Iron Man action figure then you’ll want to keep looking. But as tiny collectibles they’re quite cute, even if I had the misfortune to pull two identical toys in my first try at the new line.

Perfect for Your Desk!

If your office is anything like mine then it isn’t uncommon for people to have little toys and trinkets on their desk. And that’s just one way that you should be looking at the Iron Man Micro Muggs* when you first encounter them. These will never replace my Iron Man statues or action figures — hell, this won’t even replace my Pop! Vinyl Iron Man (review here) — but it’s very likely that at $3/each I’ll be buying a few more of these toys.

Nice Paint Apps and Tampos

Click any of the photos for a closer look at the two Iron Man Micro Muggs* and I think you’ll be happy with the quality of the designs that have been tampo printed on the plastic bodies. Everything lines up nicely and I think Hasbro did quite well in creating a $3 “designer” toy. These aren’t vinyl, but they are durable and I wouldn’t be worried about the toys breaking if I dropped one.

Closing Thoughts

You either want these or you don’t, and there’s nothing I can write or post that will change your mind about the Iron Man Micro Muggs* toys. But I think that as long as you get into these knowing what to expect — zero articulation desktop toys that are blind boxed — then you’ll be reasonably happy at the $3 price tag.

I’m not going to try to chase a complete set, but I will buy two or three more of these the next time I’m in the store and see them . . . I just hope that I get a different design next time.

  1. Ya know, I cast a pretty wide net in regards to what kinds of figures and toys I will collect, and I can appreciate some of the artistic design that goes into some of the vinyl product produced by small indie companies. But I will never understand the appeal of the mass market vinyl market.

That having been said, god knows I love and collect plenty of figures that other collectors dismiss as trash, so I’m certainly not one to question the enjoyment another collector gets out of a piece. It’s diversity like that, which makes toy collecting such an interesting hobby.
