Review – Transformers Bot Shots Shockwave

The Transformers Bot Shots series (Amazon.com search*) has been around long enough to have multiples of the same character. Earlier this month I reviewed the Jump Shots Shockwave (review here), but today I want to jump back to 2012 and take a quick look at the first Shockwave that was released in the line.

Tank Mode

A tank. And, as is pointed out in the bwtf.com Shockwave review, this is a completely new design and not just a retooling or repaint of Brawl. Not having Brawl I didn’t even think of this possibility, but seeing the bwtf.com Brawl review I can see why this was mentioned; there are some similarities, but photos show these are definitely two separate designs.

Transformation

As one of the first generation Transformers Bot Shots toys (Amazon.com search*), Shockwave uses the same transformation as the Bot Shots I reviewed last year — Barricade video review here, Thundercracker review here — which, while it works, feels less neat than the newer transformation designs in the series.

Closing Thoughts

There’s not a lot to say that you can’t tell from the photos. I prefer the design of the newer Jump Shots Shockwave (review here), since I feel it is a far better look for Shockwave in both modes, but this design is plenty fun and is clearly Shockwave once he’s in robot mode. If you’re collecting the Transformers Bot Shots toys (Amazon.com search*) then you really need at least one Shockwave.
