We Need a Masters of the Universe Classics Roton Toy, Right?
With the Fighting Foe Men (last mentioned here) coming closer to release every day, the lack of an update to the 1984 Masters of the Universe Roton to (see he-man.org) just grows more painful to accept. How, Mattel, how do you expect us to properly appreciate Ditztroyer without a Roton for him to pilot? Well, maybe it’s time everyone stand up and let Mattel know that we’re looking for a Roton for our Masters of the Universe Classics collections.
It Doesn’t Even Need the Action Gimmick!
Watch this short video to see how the 1984 Roton’s blade spun and clicked around the body as it rolled; now that’s a fantastic gimmick! But I’m willing to be at least semi-realistic here and admit that a modern Roton — especially one aimed at adult collectors — doesn’t need that spinny and clicky gimmick to satisfy our needs for a vehicle for Ditztroyer. But I know I would certainly pay another $25 or so if it meant Mattel could even include the spinning gimmick with the toy. I may be weird, though, and I’ll again admit that the gimmick isn’t (sigh) necessary.
Serrated Death!
According to Sweet, he (Ed Watts) wanted the vehicle to feature a circular serrated blade which rotated around the perimeter of the vehicle. However, Mattel’s marketing department toned down the idea.

Just look at that spinning saw of death and imagine how awesome it would look sculpted by the Four Horsemen and without the need to pass safety testing for young children. The Masters of the Universe Classics line, as a series of adult collectibles sold online and not in stores, might even be the chance for Mattel to go back to the original Roton concept and produce a toy with something other than the knob-ended blades that was used on the original toy. Just don’t cut yourself if this comes to pass; we would hate for anyone to be bloodied by such an incredible toy design.
Why the Roton Over Any Other Toy?
In my listing of five vehicles (posted here) I want in the Masters of the Universe Classics series I didn’t list the Roton. That was a mistake. After seeing the Fighting Foe Men review at The Fwoosh (review here) and thinking it over, I feel that Ditztroyer — the Roton pilot — is the coolest of the three figures and the one most deserving of his vehicle from the old model kit series. The other two may also need vehicles, but I’ve pretty much decided that out of all of the choices out there the Roton is the winner for my own needs.
And I hope I’m not alone!

We’re unlikely to convince Mattel to create a Roton toy today, but if you would love one of these on your shelf then please comment and we can at least try to demonstrate to Mattel that a modern Roton would be loved. Who knows, maybe enough of us are looking for a modern Roton for Ditztroyer to pilot that Mattel will hear our cries and create one. I’m ready with my cash to buy one . . . am I alone?

Definitely in my top 5 vehicles, too. I have a vintage Roton and while it looks ok with the Classics figures, I definitely would love an updated version. The early gang at Mattel sure had some crazy ideas for vehicles, but they really produced some masterpieces of toy design.
@Barbecue17 – If you haven’t seen that Power and Honor book of concept art then you’re missing out; the book shows just how cool Mattel’s designers were. I love that book and wish there was one like it for more toy lines.
I want Roton too! It’s on the dreaming Windraider (MOTUC) box art! It’s a must!
I would more vehicles of any kind in MOTUC. The WR is such a phenomenal piece it makes me sad we likely wont be seeing more vehicles. While I would like the Talon Fighter or Battle Ram more than anything I would buy the Heck out of a Roton. The evil guys need a vehicle of their own!
I still think it is a bit crazy we haven’t seen Mattel recoup some of the tolling cost of the WR by releasing it in an “evil” deco
