Review – Transformers Prime Cyberverse Hun-Gurrr

Standing 3-inches tall, the Cyberverse Hun-Gurrr* is one of five Transformers Prime toys that combine to form Abominus. Inspired by the Generation One Terrorcon of the same name (see the TFWiki), Hun-Gurrr is a small, minimalist design that’s fun but leaves you wishing he was just a little bigger.

Double-Headed Dragon Mode

Cyberverse Hun-Gurrr* is similar in design to the Generation One version of the character, but nowhere near identical. The ball-jointed necks and hind legs give the toy decent poseability, but nothing elaborate or exciting.

The dragon mode is functional and likely cuter than the designers originally intended, but as with Vault’s Hun-Gurrr review at It’s All True I find myself preferring the robot mode over the dragon mode.

Robot Mode

Cyberverse Hun-Gurrr* has very little in the way of articulation, but we can’t expect a lot from a $6 Transformers action figure these days. Ball-jointed hips and shoulders, hinged feet, and a swivel that swings in at the biceps — all parts of the transformation design — are it.

Most of the toy’s colors come from the plastic with just a few paint apps — yellow on the arms, the eyes on the robot head and dragon heads, gray on the tail and chest, and a spot of color on the robot’s chest — adding some details. Paint, as well as size, is just one of the places where the newest Transformers released in the last year or so show how manufacturing cost increases have affected the toys. Cyberverse Hun-Gurrr* looks pretty good, but he’s not going to replace anyone’s 1987 version of the character.

Closing Thoughts

Cyberverse Hun-Gurrr* on his own is just an okay toy. But now that I’ve found the Target Abominus exclusive pack I can say that where this action figure — and all of the other members of the team — really shine is as a group. And at $6 he’s an okay Transformers action figure; I suspect, though, that kids and parents would be happier with spending another $10 for a “Deluxe” class toy these days than buying two toys of this size.
