Review – Transformers Thundercracker (Loyal Subjects)

thundercracker

We took a look at the Midnight Megatron toy earlier this year (review here) and now it’s time for a quick peek at Thundercracker, one of the blind boxed Transformers toys released by The Loyal Subjects. These 3-inch tall designer toys are a lot of fun and look amazing as a group, so if you have not yet bought any of them I suggest dropping everything and running out right now. If you’re a fan of blind box toys and Transformers you don’t need this review . . . you need these toys.

Articulated!

These Transformers toys from The Loyal Subjects (Amazon.com search*) may not transform, but the toys have enough articulation to be poseable and make great desk or shelf display pieces. Swivels at the neck, waist, shoulders, and wrists all work fine, but on some of the toys the head sculpt blocks the neck joint and limits the range of motion. Not that it matters in the end; just check the photos to see why I’m having so much fun with these little guys.

Needs More Blue

If I have just one complaint with Thundercracker it’s that I feel he needs a lot more blue in his design. Now the paint apps may be technically pretty accurate, but that over-sized head really dominates the design and gives the toy way more gray color than I wanted. But even the giant head could be overcome with more — and brighter! — blue on the wings, legs, and body. But this is a minor issue and can be easily solved be presenting us with a second version in a later wave; I won’t be upset at all if I get a brighter Thundercracker in the future.

Closing Thoughts

Maybe I’m just crazy, but these blind boxed Transformers toys (Amazon.com search*) are far neater than I was expecting and I’m happy to have bought a box while I was at SDCC earlier this year. And with more toys in the works this would be the time to grab the first wave; you don’t want to fall too far behind before series two hits shelves.

Very cool Transformers collectibles and recommended to all of the designer toy fans who love robots.
