Review – Funko Blox Boba Fett

Funko’s Blox vinyl toy series (Amazon.com search*) is one of my favorite of the Funko lines. The stylized, near-flattish toys have great designs and look awesome on shelves, so popping open this Star Wars: Boba Fett Blox* was a real treat since it’s both a new Boba Fett toy and a new Blox toy for my collection.

Bobblehead

The toy is effectively without any articulation at all, unless you count that the head sits on a spring and that the entire piece is one stylized bobblehead. I’ve never really been a bobblehead fan, but Funko has found a way to convince me to buy some of these toys and this Star Wars: Boba Fett Blox* looks sweet on the shelf with the Pop! Vinyl Boba Fett (review here) that Funko shipped to me last year.

Sculpt

Standing 6-inches tall, the Star Wars: Boba Fett Blox* vinyl toy looks as awesome as every other Blox toy I own. Hardish lines, heavily-stylized shapes, and the raised details make this near-flat toy really look fun. I would have loved it if the arms had a little forward movement, but the Blox style is to make the toys look like 2-D drawings raised off of the page so the design fits that concept perfectly. And, as always, Funko makes one hell of an adorable toy.

Paint

The only area where Funko has really lost points for quality in the past was their paint apps, but the past year or so has seen the company really focus on — and improve! — their paint quality. And the Star Wars: Boba Fett Blox* benefits from that improved paintwork. It’s not perfect — there are some fuzzy areas here and there — but it’s much better than some earlier Blox in my collection and the paint is tight enough that this shelf display piece looks fantastic with the other toys on the shelf.

Closing Thoughts

I know that not everyone is into Funko’s Blox vinyl toy series (Amazon.com search*), but I’m a fan of unique designs and the approach to building semi-flat toys makes the Blox line one I would love to see continued. The sales and clearance prices I’ve seen leaves me worried about the Blox future, but for now I can suggest that if you like the look of the toy in these pics then grab a Star Wars: Boba Fett Blox* while prices are low.

I need to get my Stormtrooper Blox and Darth Vader Blox opened and on the shelf. Maybe over the Christmas break I’ll find time.
