There Was a Deluxe “Transformers Universe” Published by Marvel in 1987?

Back in 1986 and 1987 I spent way, way too many hours reading over the Marvel Transformers Universe mini-series (see the TFWiki). This four volume comic mini-series featured bios and artwork for most of the Transformers that had appeared by late in 1986. I didn’t have all of the toys, but with this series I had the cool background information and I absolutely loved the comics and couldn’t get enough of flipping through the pages.

(The later More Than Meets the Eye* books were updated/modern takes on the old Transformers Universe comics; these books are very much recommended. See my reading post for more.)

And only over the last week did I learn that Marvel produced a Transformers Universe Deluxe* that collected the four volumes into a single book (minus a few entries, see the TFWiki). Damn, how did I overlook this collection for all of these years?

Now I’m wishing IDW would produce a reprint and complete volume of this old Transformers Universe series. I’d love to get all of this material in a new collection.

  1. It would be awesome if IDW’s (hypothetical) collected edition included the single ones from the later issues as well.

  2. I kinda love the cover to #2, where Megatron and Optimus shoot at each other, and miss, from like ten feet away. I guess that’s why that war lasted five million years…

  3. I have the collected version in storage. I’ll have to check, but I don’t think it had any additional content. Still, it was cool to have all of those comics in one book!
