Review – Transformers Rescue Bots Optimus Prime

optimusprime

The new Transformers Rescue Bots Optimus Prime* is significantly smaller than the first Optimus Prime toy that was released in the line a few years ago (review here) and makes a nice addition to any Optimus Prime collection.

Monster Truck Prime

The below shots of this new Transformers Rescue Bots Optimus Prime* toy in truck mode show how the over-sized tires make this a perfect Optimus Prime as a monster truck toy. The sculpt’s as clean as anything we’ve seen in the Rescue Bots line and the toy rolls smoothly across the floor. Better yet, as long as you don’t accidentally trigger the transformation then it makes a durable toy car; unlike a lot of the newer Transformers toys we don’t have to worry about an arm, leg, or unknown body part flopping loose when driving the truck across the floor.

Auto-Transform

This Transformers Rescue Bots Optimus Prime* has zero points of articulation, but what it does have is a very quick transformation process. Grasp the rear of the truck and pull straight back; the clicking sound says you’re done transforming the toy and it’s now in robot mode. To get back into truck mode just collapse the legs straight back into the body and everything folds back neatly. Simple and great for the little kids!

Clean and Fun

Check out my pics of the Transformers Rescue Bots Optimus Prime* toy and you can see that Hasbro has made a great little transforming robot toy for the younger kids. Standing over 4-inches tall, this toy won’t replace the adult collector’s Optimus Prime collection, but it is as fun an addition as we could hope for and I can happily report that it goes nicely on my shelf of Optimus Prime toys. (Hey, when did there get to be almost two dozen Optimus Prime toys and collectibles on that shelf?)

Closing Thoughts

I’m amazed that Hasbro has kept the Rescue Bots series running as long as they have, but as long as we can get toys like this Transformers Rescue Bots Optimus Prime* out of the deal then I’m 100% happy with the line continuing. This is a must-buy if you’ve got a young child who wants a Transformers toy.

The only thing that could make this entire series even better would be for Hasbro to bring us some villains for the line. Not having an adorable Shockwave or Soundwave in the Transformers: Rescue Bots line feels like a crime against my toy collection. Come on, Hasbro, and make us at least a couple of bad guy toys for our collections!
