Review – Minicar Tapper
After yesterday’s look at Minicar Glypher (review here) I thought it a good idea to dive right in and examine another one of the Impossible Toys Minicar transforming robot toys. So here we have the teal-colored Tapper, a Cliffjumper-inspired robot/car that feels as at home in a Transformers Generation One display as Glypher does.
Still Adorable!
The Penny Racer-like design of those 1984 Transformers Generation One minicars is brought to the future with these Impossible Toys designs, and Tapper here wonderfully embraces that Penny Racers-styling and is as adorable as we expect from such a toy. If you’re not familiar with what I’m even talking about here check this post from 2010.
Cliffjumper?
Where Glypher (review here) has the rounded, more bug-like look of the classic Bumblebee toy, Tapper here has the sharp angles and spoiler found on the 1984 Cliffjumper. The two look similar — and feature an identical transformation — but the differences are just enough that even as a kid I wanted both Cliffjumper and Bumblebee. Smart move in the past, Hasbro, and a great way for Impossible Toys to send a love letter to my childhood by carrying over the same “same yet different” approach to the toy design.
Closing Thoughts
As with the other Impossible Toys Minicar toys, Tapper is currently on clearance over at Big Bad Toy Store so grab one now before prices climb. I’m still not certain the prices ever will climb, but something makes me think that in the future these will be tough to find and more in demand than they are today.
Tapper is just one of several designs from the Minicar family, meaning that a Transformers Generation One fan who really gets excited by these toys has a lot of color options to choose from. I can fully admit that not everyone will want these toys, but those who appreciate and miss the Transformers Generation One approach to transforming robot design will want at least one of the designs from this series. If this is you then I suggest grab a color you like and move on with life; I think you’ll be quite happy with one of these in your collection.
