Review – Marvel Hulk Vinyl Figure

vinylhulk

Last month we took a look at Hasbro’s Marvel Iron Man Vinyl Figure (review here) and I was ridiculously happy with the toy . . . and the fact that is actually a toy and not a collectible mass of joints that want to break or just fall over. Add in the fact that the toy was only $6 and I was in heaven, with the only thing that could make me happier would be finding more releases in the series.

As you can tell by the pics, I am happier now.

Packaged Shot

The above photo shows the Marvel Hulk Vinyl Figure “packaged” the way I found it at Walmart. A stretchy rubberband-like piece wrapped around the toy was used to hang the figure from the peg while the tag on the back came off as soon as I gave it a yank. Very minimal “packaging” and I’m kinda anxious to see how well this goes over at mass stores in the US. If this works at retail then I expect we’ll see even more loose toys next Christmas.

Four Points of Articulation

Swivel shoulders, waist, and neck are it . . . and that’s enough for the kids!!! Sure it would be awesome if this Hulk could sit down, but sitting isn’t a requirement for playing when you’re Hulk Smashing your way through your toys. All of the joints work perfectly and I’m not at all worried about anything breaking as I twist and turn the toy into poses.

Paint Apps

Very minimal paint, but what paint there is was applied all neat and tidy and the Hulk looks pretty damn sweet to me. This isn’t a high-end statue, but at a $6 toy for kids the paint is more than excellent and the figure even looks good next to some of the other Hulk toys that are already in my collection.

Closing Thoughts

Along with the Marvel Iron Man Vinyl Figure (review here), this vinyl Hulk toy shows Hasbro is seeking new ways to get toys manufactured and out to kids, and now all we can do is watch and see whether or not loose vinyl figures can sell in the US market. I strongly suspect this idea will be a success, if only because parents and kids can know immediately what the toy’s like before buying . . . and the $6 price point is sure to make this look a lot more appealing to parents when they compare it to smaller action figures that are priced at a higher amount.

I cannot recommend this to anyone who expects action figures to have lots of joints. This is a small and inexpensive vinyl toy and not a “collector action figure,” so if you’re always looking for more points of articulation you will not like this. BUT if you want a fun toy for the shelf, or if you would like a Hulk toy for a child, I think the $6 price tag is a bargain and you should buy this guy.

I like him.

  1. I saw the header pic and thought that was the actual green color and got excited for a bit. It makes the green of the figure look dull in comparison. 🙁

    1. @Jonny – Sorry! But maybe when Hasbro runs the mold again they’ll play with the colors and make a more vibrant version. Or treat it like Japanese vinyl and run a rainbow of Hulks.
