G.I. Joe “Black Series” in 2015?

I already went into the reasons why I believe a 6-inch scale G.I. Joe action figure series is unlikely (posted here), but rumors are circulating that someone is going to launch a 6-inch scale G.I. Joe series next year. The HISS Tank thread states:

Just like we have reported in the past about the potential for a G.I. Joe Jumbo Gentile Giant line, very strong rumors have surfaced for the future of G.I. Joe in 2015. G.I. Joe to return in 2015 in the form of a G.I. Joe Black Series 6″ series that will kick off with a Snake Eyes and Timber set via SDCC 2015!

Well, I’m still very amazed that the Jumbo Vintage G.I. Joe action figures are happening — AND was wrong in my thoughts before the line was official — so what the hell do I know? Maybe there will be a 6-inch scale G.I. Joe action figure series next year?

Would Funko go so far as to license G.I. Joe and fold it in with their Magic: The Gathering and Game of Thrones lines?

For more on the entire situation see this post at The Fwoosh. I’m still not seeing a way in which a 6-inch G.I. Joe action figure series could succeed, but since it’s not my job to roll the dice and take a risk then it doesn’t matter. Maybe I’m just too conservative in business; good thing whoever is in charge over at Hasbro isn’t as risk-adverse as I seem to be or even rumors like this would be unlikely to happen.

  1. As a Joe collector, I’m unsure of what to think of a 6″ line. Space is at a premium, though I probably would end up collecting most of them.

    I take it you’re holding out for a 6″ Dr. Mindbender? 😉

  2. I could see G.I. Joe licensed to another company at 3 3/4″ or I could see them trying their hand at a 6″ line aimed at older fans. I’m not sure either would succeed however.

  3. I’d buy my favorites characters and the ninjas in a 6″ scale, but I can’t see myself collecting them the way I do 3 3/4″. Just not enough space to store them.

  4. Love the concept — but considering the way the SW Black property has been handled, I’m sceptical about it coming off.
