1978 Micronauts Boardgame

I have never once in my life played this, and after looking at the price tag on the game these days it’s looking like I will never play The World of the Micronauts Game. Published by Milton Bradley in 1978, the pics of the game posted at 2 Warps to Neptune make it look like a gloriously-terrible bit of boardgame fun from the seventies.

The other thing that looking at this game (which can also be seen at BoardGameGeek and Inner Space Online) made me realize is that I do not own a book about Micronauts toys. Sure they appear in some of the books in my collection — Mego Action Figures Toys*, Mego Toys: An Illustrated Value Guide*, and G.I. Joe and Other Backyard Heroes* all have sections about Micronauts — but I don’t have a book that’s just focused on the Micronauts toys. Does such a book even exist?

Does anyone know of a book about Micronauts that I should own?

  1. Ha, yes this game is great as a display piece and can sometimes be found pretty cheap, but the rules are pretty blah. They deliberately made it to scale with the figures though so you could use the real figures as game pieces or use it as a playset of sorts.

No book on Micronauts toys has been created yet, it’s a project I’d love to get involved with someday and there’s been a couple of other aborted attempts in the past. There have been some fan-published fanzines with some great material from years ago, but that’s about it for the West. Our only real resources on Micros are websites such as Innerspace Online, Microforever, and the original Micronauts Outpost. And of course the community itself (formerly centered around the Micropolis Embassy on Yahoo Groups, but now focused at the Facebook MicroFans group).

For Microman in Japan, that’s another story. There’s a few really good and extensive books out there such as the Takara SF Land Encyclopedia, Microman Chronicle, Victory Project Mook, Microman: the Another Story (sic), Microman Perfect Works, and others.
