Transformers on Videocassette

These days we can just watch all of the 1984 Transformers cartoon on DVD*, but back when this ad was new we had to catch the cartoon on TV . . . or we could always buy episodes on VHS to watch whenever we felt the urge. $24.95 for what was something like three episodes on one videocassette is really pricey — especially when you factor in inflation — but that didn’t keep these cartoons from reaching some impressive sales spots at the time.

  1. This was pretty common in the 1980s and 1990s wasn’t it? In the pre-DVD era, I don’t remember many kids’ TV shows getting a full season release — just 3-4 episode compilations.

  2. I loved those volumes of Transformers. Every time we went to “Movies & More” (the name of our local rental store) I begged my mother to rent them every time she went! I remember when we got a second VCR I was so excited because we were able to dub the tapes!
