Mezco’s One:12 Collective Batman Requests

DisThunder posted his five choices at The Fwoosh for more Batman action figures in Mezco’s One:12 Collective series . . . and that has inspired me to devise my own list of five. Hopefully their new Batman action figure (pre-order at Entertainment Earth*, pre-order Previews exclusive at Entertainment Earth*) does so very well that they’ll produce more, but rather than DisThunder’s list I’d prefer Mezco take my choices and make them into real toys.

batman-aparo

Jim Aparo

DisThunder’s Batman post almost got it right. The list of five even included Jim Aparo’s name, but it fails in that Aparo wasn’t officially listed as one of the five requested designs. As a child of the seventies and eighties it’s tough for me to imagine a world in which we don’t get a One:12 Collective Batman inspired by the art of Jim Aparo. Make it so, Mezco!

batman-bisley

Simon Bisley

The Frank Miller-inspired Batman 6-inch scale action figure they’ve launched with was a great choice, but if we want a bulked up Batman it’s hard not to want a Bisely-inspired figure. Ridiculous and unrealistic muscles and anatomy, but really freaking cool, this is one Batman design that would make Miller’s Batman look almost lifelike.

batman-breyfogle

Norm Breyfogle

Hell, yes, we do need a Norm Breyfogle-inspired Batman action figure in the line. Breyfogle’s Batman design is lean, unique, and would look stunning with a cloth cape that flows and flows and flows. The toy would almost need to come with a display piece so we can backlight it dramatically and turn the toy into a silhouette on command.

jock

Jock

For a more modern take on Batman I vote that Mezco select the work of Jock for their One:12 Collective series. I don’t think anyone will ever properly translate Jock’s manic line and powerful art into a 3-D item, but after what I’ve seen of the Miller-inspired Batman I’m happy to let Mezco try it. A Jock Batman would be my second choice (Breyfogle has to be #1).

batman-jones

Kelley Jones

To cover our nineties base I’m suggesting the work of Kelley Jones. As with Breyfogle this would be a hell of a lot of cloth for the cape, and rather than interchangeable hands we would need interchangeable bat ears so we can adjust the length to our own tastes. Jones’ Batman is another version of the character that would be tough to resist . . . and the variants get to be a lot of fun once you swap out the head for a vampire Batman design.

The upcoming One:12 Collective Batman action figure (pre-order at Entertainment Earth*, pre-order Previews exclusive at Entertainment Earth*) looks so very cool that I am actually expecting to get all three versions, and after DisThunder’s post at TheFwoosh I think it’s safe to say I would buy any one of his choices . . . and any one of my own choices.

I just hope that Mezco doesn’t decide to dive in and make all ten designs. I’ll need another job if that happens . . .

  1. Well, damn, son. I don’t think I’d kick any of those choices out of bed for eating crackers, either.
(Had I done 10, at least 3 of those would’ve made mine too.)
