Spotted Online – 1985 McDonald’s Commandrons

I kinda remember these toys, but not so well that I instantly said “hey, those are McDonald’s transforming robot toys!” Over at the TFW2005 site is this older post where user rapid_fire shared his Commandrons find.

The only transforming robot toys I remember well were the Changeables (which came up here over the weekend), so digging out a completely different set of Happy Meal transforming robot toys from the same era is a bit of a treat.

The Changeables are much easier to locate online, but some digging shows us this ActionFigurePics post from 2011 that shows off pics of the Commandrons toys. Okay, when it comes to cheap transforming robot toys I have to say these look especially silly and fun.

  1. I had these as a kid and only until about 3 years ago, i couldn’t remember what they were. Once I figured it out, I picked them up right away, still cool toys.

    1. @Talyn – That’s exactly what I did with the Marchon Road Bots. I couldn’t figure out the name of them for years, but the instant I found the name I hunted them down.

  2. These look like great fun! I would love to see McDonalds do toys like these again, but they don’t push the Happy Meals like they used to — at least not in Australia. Too much backlash in recent years over the general lack of nutrition…

    1. @Wolf – I read somewhere that McDonald’s is actually the world’s largest toy distributor all because of the number of Happy Meal toys they sell each year. I’ll try and figure out where that info was at.
