Zaxxon Artwork from March, 1983

The March, 1983 issue of Electronic Games Magazine includes this fantastic two-page spread showcasing the Coleco Zaxxon home cartridge. The review is entertaining and all — and this post makes a fun companion to the Zaxxon ad I shared recently — but it’s the illustration that truly makes this piece a winner. Seeing this 1983 game review makes me wish:

• I could create a physical magazine.
• The magazine could be sustainable.
• The magazine could bring in enough cash to commission original art for reviews.

All that’s unlikely, though, so the best I can do today is look into the past and a time when magazines were making money and providing us with original artwork.
