West End Games’ Star Wars RPG in 1988
West End Games sure got a lot of use out of the existing Star Wars artwork back in the eighties. This July, 1988 Dragon magazine ad for the Star Wars roleplaying game (Amazon.com search*) shows us how the company used the art to create some of the most attractive ads in the game industry. I am certain the license was expensive, but the art alone had to have been worth a lot and saved them significant amounts of money.
