Review – Project Squadt Chipp S 003 (Halloween Skelsuit)

Manufacturer: Jamungo * Year: 2009 * Ages: 17+

I know, guys. Last month in my Project Squadt Gassed review (review here) I said:

“I’m betting someone with a complete collection (of what has been released so far) has a fantastic display, but there’s absolutely no reason for me to try putting together my own complete display.”

Well, I’m not going to try to put together a complete set, but when Ferg’s (Twitter) decided to give us this Halloween-flavored Project Squadt toy I decided that one more wouldn’t hurt me. (And hey, I skipped the most recent release so maybe I’m cured of wanting any more in this series.)

This review’s going to be quite short, but only because the basic toy is basically identical to the Gassed release. So if you haven’t read that review then do so now and then come back here. Chipp will be waiting for you.

The Same Body, Different Accessories

Chipp is the basic design with an axe, a skull mask, and a skeleton-decorated bodysuit that fits tight to the toy’s body. The skull mask doesn’t fit quite as nicely on the toy’s head as Gassed’s gas mask does, but it’s a tight enough fit that there’s no fear that the helmet will fall off.

He Needs a Pumpkin!

As cute as Gassed is, this “ready to trick or treat” Chipp is even cuter. All he’s missing is a little jack ‘o lantern pail to carry candy (and if I can find one that he can carry then Chipp is gonna get an extra accessory). The axe, which was advertised as a “candy corn axe,” gives the toy a threatening appearance, but even with the axe he’s still extremely cute.

Glow-in-the-Dark!

And, just to make this spooktacular toy perfect for Halloween, his arms, legs, helmet, and the skeleton design on his bodysuit all glow-in-the-dark. The photo below shows this in action, but unfortunately I haven’t mastered the art of photographing GITD toys so this isn’t the best photo I’ve ever taken. It’s a simple feature, but it’s so appropriate to Halloween Skelsuit that there’s no way I couldn’t love it.

Closing Thoughts

To be honest, this review doesn’t help you to decide whether or not to buy one of the toy’s in this series because there wasn’t a lot for me to say that wasn’t said already in my Gassed review. At $75, Chipp — and all of the releases in the Project Squadt series — is quite expensive, but always keep in mind that these are very limited releases. I don’t know if these are going to have any sort of value in the future — collectibles fluctuate in value so often that it’s impossible to know what will or won’t be in demand — but they’re neat enough toys that designer toy fans should consider grabbing at least one for their collections.

Philip Reed is done buying releases in this series. No, really. Well, at least as long as there isn’t an Ashley Wood release or a stormtrooper-inspired design. Or . . . damn, maybe it’s better not to make any promises about whether or not Philip is finished buying new releases in this series.
