“‘Minority Report’ work of a master”

Following up on the new Minority Report television series (posted here) I set out into the Google newspaper archives to locate whatever I could about the movie. One of the very first discoveries was a review of the Minority Report film*. Written by Glenn Whipp, this 2002 Tuscaloosa News article reminds me of just how brilliant Minority Report actually is. I think it was this movie that fully led me to believe that Tom Cruise can star in great sci-fi films.

Whipp’s review is a great read, but one specific paragraph caught my eye since it very well highlights how things today aren’t all that differnt than they were over a decade ago:

“It’s eerily relevant stuff at a time when Attorney General John Ashcroft is arresting — but not charging — suspected terrorists and advances in brainmapping have scientists believing they can predict who is more likely to be aggressive and, yes, even criminal.”

Great. Now this makes me even more hopeful that the new Fox Minority Report television show is awesome.
