Review – Transformers: Titans Return Loudmouth

loudmouthhead

Hasbro’s new Titans Return Loudmouth* is the second of the small Titan Masters toys that I’ve opened (Nightbeat review here), and everything I’m finding with this line of toys makes me happy. The robots are tiny, yes, but they’re a lot of fun.

Hasbro’s Official Press Pics

Comparing the final toy (below) to the official press pics (above), we can see that the 3-D renders Hasbro creates for marketing purposes are technically accurate, yes, but the digital renders don’t do a great job of reflecting the true nature of the plastic and paintwork involved in the final toys. Still, it’s kinda fun to get a look at marketing images and real toys in one place, and the finished toys aren’t so far off from the renders that I think there’s a problem. If anything, the renders do a perfectly good job of approximating the finished toy.

Robot Mode

Transformation design, size, and feel of the Titans Return Loudmouth* robot are identical to Nightbeat (review here), so I am fairly confident that once you have held one of these new Headmaster-like robots then there are no surprises. They’re all pretty much the same, even if the sculpts of these two are different. And besides, there’s only so much you can do with a 1.5-inch tall transforming robot toy.

Tiny Car Mode

As with Nightbeat (review here), the Titans Return Loudmouth* robot comes with a little transforming vehicle that can also serve as a weapon for larger robots. The car mode is up first, and this little hover vehicle is my favorite of the two vehicle modes. What a fun little racer! I wish it had wheels, but it is plenty fun as is and is a great little design.

Tank Mode

Okay, this mode is kinda meh in my eyes. While the Titans Return Loudmouth* car mode is fun and all, this little tank is just a little too simple for my tastes. Sure it works, but it isn’t all that exciting. I’ll have to try this with one of the Titans Return Deluxe toys* to see if it makes a better hand weapon than it does a tank.

Closing Thoughts

Hasbro’s Transformers: Titans Return toyline (find at Amazon.com*) is shaping up to be my favorite Transformers series from Hasbro since the Generations toys of 2010 to about 2012 or so. Combiner Wars kinda fell flat for me — something about the combined robots just didn’t work all that well in my eyes — but this newest line of little Headmasters is fantastic and so very fun that I’m ready to open another set.

Great job, Hasbro team! More like this, please.

  1. This might be the part of the line that saves it for me after I returned my Fort Max.

Love the price point and size, and have a soft spot for Action Masters.

    1. @Court – I’ve thought about buying Fortress Maximus. Any specific reason why you returned it? Just too big? (Size is what has me hesitating.)

  2. His size causes issues with stability mostly.

Don’t get me wrong, the sculpt and rework of Metroplex is amazing and the new cerebros is great. But saying that, its too much upper weight on a weak hip and hollow legs.

I’ve always heard people complain about Hasbro’s hollow builds and cheap material, was never an issue with me until now.

    1. @Court – Thanks for the thoughts! I’ll probably keep resisting because of the size. I look around the house and say “Where would I even put that toy?” I need to open a museum.
