Star Wars Sequel Preview from the Summer of 1979

The years between the release of the original Star Wars movie and The Empire Strikes Back were a magical time. Marvel’s classic Star Wars comic book (find at Amazon.com*) offered us space opera fun while books like Han Solo at Stars’ End* and Splinter of the Mind’s Eye* gave us new adventures that explored new areas of the Star Wars universe in a dramatically different way than the comic books. And we can’t forget the Kenner toys of 1978 and 1979 that gave so many of us the tools to create our own adventures!

Today we go back to that simpler time with this Star Battles magazine article on the Star Wars sequel. Written by George Wilfehrt, this gives us a peek at Luke Skywalker riding a Tauntaun and there’s just enough of a summary of Hoth to give us a taste . . . even if some of the information is more of the misinformation variety than it is hard facts.

“Yet, the Rebel Base on Hoth is irreplaceable, so when Darth Vader was reported approaching Hoth, Luke Skywalker immediately was sent to the planet to keep the Dark Lord from destroying the Rebel base.”
