The Mattel Masters of the Universe action figures of the eighties hit a rough time when the sales plummeted and stores everywhere were overstocked with action figures, vehicles, playsets, and everything He-Man under the sun.

“Then in 1987, MOTU sales make like a kamikaze pilot in a nosedive, plunging to a heart-wrenching $7 million. All I can say is, the levela of peptic stress in corporate boardrooms skyrocket when you go from $400 million one year to $7 million the next.”

Mastering the Universe: He-Man and the Rise and Fall of a Billion-Dollar Idea*

And despite the neat-looking designs of the action figures in this 1987 He-Man commercial, this series spelled the end of the classic eighties Masters of the Universe action figures.
