Review – Pop! Heroes Batman (Limited Chase Edition)

The Batman POP! Heroes* is every bit as cute and fun as the other Pop! Vinyl toys that we’ve looked at here at battlegrip.com over the last year. Short. Squat. A massive head. Cute eyes. Batman has all of this and comes together to just continue proving that Funko knows what they’re doing when it comes to characters designs and sculpts. This guy’s adorable!

An excellent companion to the Batman Blox toy (review here), the Pop! Batman shown here is the special edition version and not the standard edition that I thought I’d be getting when I ordered the toy online. But I’m not complaining at all; this just means that the next time I’m in a store and see the basic Batman then I can grab one. Yes, the toy’s so cute that I’ll be happy to have this variant on display next to the standard version of the toy.

Articulation

As with the other Pop! Vinyl toys, Batman’s only point of articulation is the swivel neck. Look left. Look right. Look straight behind him. Yes, these are the dynamic poses that Batman can be displayed in. The legs and arms continue to be locked in place; maybe Funko will create a “deluxe” Pop! Vinyl series in the future and give the toys head and arm articulation. I know that I’d buy yet another Batman if he had a different sculpt and just a little more articulation.

Paint

The one weak spot, the paint apps on the Batman POP! Heroes* toy are not as tight as I’d like . . . or as perfect as the sculpt deserves. The right arm has a fairly large splotch of silver while all of the details are a little fuzzy. But, yet again, my complaints with the paint vanish as soon as the toy is displayed on the shelf. There must be some powerful magic in these sculpts; I keep buying the toys despite the weak paintwork.

Closing Thoughts

The Pop! Vinyl series continues to be a toy line that just keeps growing on me. What started as an excuse to buy a few Monsters Cereals toys has slowly devolved into an obsession with the cute designs and excellent work Funko sinks into the toy sculpts. As with the Batman Black & White statue series I’m going to say that it was seeing large displays of Funko’s Pop! Vinyl toys — New York Toy Fair pics, Toy Tokyo visit — that convinced me to buy more of the toys.

And then it was getting more and more of them that made me want to keep adding to the collection. As with a lot of designs I have to admit that the more of these that I display the more of them I want to display. That’s a great trick and one I’d love to learn. Until I do, though, I’ll just keep buying the occasional Pop! Vinyl toy for my shelves.
