Hot Wheels Car and Matchbox Car Case
As near as I can determine, Mattel has done all they could to keep Hot Wheels toy cars priced close to a dollar regardless of inflation. This 1980 newspaper advertisement shows us the cars at $0.77/each, which isn’t such an odd price even for Hot Wheels on sale today. I don’t know how Mattel has held the price for so many decades, but I am impressed at their skill in cost management.
