Read William Gibson’s “Johnny Mnemonic” in Its Original Release

My first exposure to William Gibson’s Johnny Mnemonic short story was in the Burning Chrome* collection. That book of short stories still stands up strong as one of my favorite cyberpunk works, and I can still remember the late night back in the eighties when I burned through the entire collection . . . and then went searching for more.

I’d always known that Johnny Mnemonic was first published in Omni magazine, and today I realized that the issue — May, 1981 — is on archive.com where any of us can go back and check things out. I cannot suggest that you actually read the story in this online format — the actual Burning Chrome* collection is a far better choice — but it’s still very cool to see the story in its Omni presentation. Check it out!
