Spotted Online – Masters of the Universe Classics King Hssss Reviews

The villainous King Hssss goes up for sale at Matty Collector next week, but at Toy Fair last month Mattel handed out the figure to some toy bloggers (they didn’t give me one, but a friendly fellow blogger gave me his so expect a review soonish). Fortunately, some of those bloggers snapped photos and have posted reviews of the figure which should give everyone a chance to decide whether or not to try to order the figure next Tuesday.

Poe Ghostal’s Review

First up is Poe Ghostal’s review. Poe is an admitted Masters of the Universe fan but he’s fair and, when necessary, critical in his reviews of the toyline. He notes a few issues with the toy, but closes on a mixed note:

King Hssss is my favorite of the Snake Men, and I’m glad he’s the first one we got in this line. While the Classics version has some flaws (the soft details, the boots, the underside paint on the snake), he’s still a great action figure, and the swappable bodies adds a lot of value.

VeeBee’s Review

In his review at The Fwoosh, VeeBee shows us both awesome photos of the toy and some excellent comparison shots of the new King Hssss next to an older version of the toy. The review is generally favorable and closes with:

King HSSSS is going to be a large part of that and I think many Masters fans will rack him up in their “Figure of the Year” considerations. He has so much to offer and while I think the disguised form is the stronger of the two, fans of either form will have a very imposing new faction leader to add to their Eternia collections.

So there are two different looks at the upcoming King Hsss Masters of the Universe Classics action figure. He’s certainly a weird design, and I miss the snake-hidden-inside-a-body trick, but if you’re liking what you see then be at Matty Collector next Tuesday. Just don’t linger too long because I still want that Battle Armor Skeletor (mentioned here) so I need you out of my way when I get there. Hey, stop hogging the bandwidth!

  1. Hey Philip, I would have emailed you, but couldn’t find your email address. Anyway, I just wanted to give you a heads up that several Dallas TRU locations put out the new MOTUC 2 packs today, so hopefully Austin will see them soon.
I picked up the Aquaman/Merman pack. I think I like the wet look of Aquamans shirt, plus the gold belt, better than his wave 2 paint from DCUC. Blue Mer-man is pretty solid too. For now he is a defector from Mer-man’s ranks and has raced to Atlantis to warn Aquaman of the impending invasion. I know that it doesn’t make sense for either MOTU or DC stories, so sue me.

  2. @Clark – I leave for Boston tomorrow, but with luck I’ll manage to find that Mer-Man set. The local TRU has had way, way too many of the Superman/He-Man packs so if I’m lucky Mer-Man will also sit on the shelves here until I get home.

And I really need to place a “contact” button somewhere on the page design.
