Dungeons & Dragons Kre-O Reveal!
Announced earlier this year (mentioned here), the new Dungeons & Dragons Kre-O toys show that Hasbro does realize that they own the Dungeons & Dragons brand. That came as a bit of a surprise to me since I wrote about the brand back in April — see “What if Hasbro Accidentally Remembered that They Own Dungeons & Dragons?” — and now that I’ve seen what they’re planning for the line I can say I’m impressed.
Will this succeed? I have no idea, but unfortunately I would have to bet “no.” The only way I see this line seriously taking off is if Hasbro is doing a big push and has an animated series launching in 2014 . . . but if such a thing has been announced then I’ve missed it. Hell, even weekly webisodes of D&D animated adventures would be a plus since so many kids are online these days.
Regardless of how this shakes out, though, I can say I’ll at least try a few of the blind bags.

meh. I collect the Transformer Micro Changers (the blind bags) and love them! As a “gamer” and child of the 80s, I had high hopes for D&D Kre-O when I read the first announcement but what you’re sharing here does not interest me in at all. Kre-O humans look like cheap knock-offs in every line from Battleship to TF with the exception of some Joes (most of which are wearing full head gear!). I don’t expect this line to last beyond 2014… which is very sad. Hopefully the dragons will be cool!
Did they forget about the dragons part??
I know Hasbro owns it, but I think they’d have made out better licencing this out and getting Lego to do it. Though with the LOTR products Lego is doing, they may not have been interested in another fantasy themed license (although they do handle both Marvel and DC hero lines, so it is hard to know).
The figs look pretty cool, but what the heck is a catapult doing in there? The sets themselves seem to be apeing Lego Castle a little too much. They have a HUGE opportunity to throw in some traps and dungeon walls and chambers. Or a cavern set!
And there better be a Warduke, Kelek, and Strongheart in the next wave….
No dragons? No dungeons? No interest. Sad, as a cool build-a-dungeon set with lots of playable character archives would sell!
As has been said, where are the monsters?
And I just completed building the Lego Castle Gatehouse last night. Some of those pictures make me think somebody at Hasbro was very familiar with that set, too…
