Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers Space Ship Models on Sale in 1979

The December 20, 1979 issue of the Milwaukee Journal newspaper has me now questioning one of the earlier posts here at battlegrip.com. This full-page ad of model kits on sale at Target shows off Buck Rogers model kits that look an awful lot like those shown in an ad I posted in May. The prices are dramatically different, though, so I think we’re looking at two different things?

Are there any Buck Rogers fans who can identify what’s shown in this ad and what’s shown in the ad I posted in May? Are these the same things, or are we looking at two different groups of kits that were available in the late seventies? Help!

  1. From the dimensions given, the description, and Mego having the license at the time (excluding Rack Toys), the Buck Rogers in the 25th Century “Star Fighter” and “Draconian Marauder” are the same for each ad.

The Target ad may have been a regrettable misprint or just an incredible (nearly 80% off) sale. That said, given the time (1979), I lean towards the former since it’s very untenable to think of a store so drastically cutting the price of a brand new item in it’s hey-day.
